Welcome to
NZ Country Trails

Kia Ora, from rural New Zealand where farmers, orchardists, viticulturalists, lifestyle block owners and small communities come together to list their activities and form NZ Country Trails.

Our network of open gates invites you to experience an authentic ‘home-grown’ rural life – where you can make your own arrangements to meet personally with all kinds of people, learn the history and hear the intriguing stories that go with it all.

Country cafe/local art display

Situated just a short distance from Cheviot the Fossil Point Cafe and Gallery is the inspiration of Kim Henderson, an internationally recognised ceramicist. Her cafe includes a gallery which features the works of local artists.and the cafe is renowned for the quality of its breakfasts and lunch menus. It also has its own garden where weary travellers can sit, relax and breath in the fresh North Canterbury country air.

Bush walks/relaxation

At their Mahaanui Farm Stay Experience, Simon and Sally Officer invite guests to explore and experience life on a traditional high country farm where they can enjoy the simple pleasures of bush walks, fishing, swimming, petting farm animals or just relaxing with a book under a tree. Simon and Sally welcome you to stay a day or two and have three unique accommodation options on offer.

Learn to be a farmer

The love of the land and farm life was enough to motivate Laura Douglas to leave her office desk in a city bank to buy some land and set up her Real Life Country Farm. There, townspeople can experience what it takes to be a real farmer, to learn how to dag sheep, crack a whip, ride horses and shoot guns. And there is even the opportunity to cuddle the animals!
