Kaipara Views Eco-Lodge
Located high up near the highest point in the Rodney District of Auckland and close to Mt Auckland (Atuanui Reserve), sits Sharon Lowdon's and her husband Shane's, Kaipara VIEWS Eco Lodge, with spectacular views of the Kaipara Harbour and beyond.
Their Eco-Lodge represents what it means to live truly self sustainably, being completely energy self sufficient, having been off the national power grid for 23 years, relying on solar and wind to power all of its energy requirements. The decision to go off-grid was made after being told by the local Lines company it would cost $80,000 to connect to the national power grid.
The three acres on which the lodge is located also enables the lodge to be completely self sufficient in food, using organic farming practices to supply all of its own food requirements.
Sharon and Shane have previous experience in farming Fallow deer, pigs, chickens and goats but today it's only sheep and cows which are farmed on their property. Native bird life abounds in the surrounding native bush, Kiwi, Tui, Kererū and Piwakawaka (Fantail).
Visitors are welcome and accommodation is provided for guests in the form of a two bedroom lodge, located separately on the property and which sleeps four people.
