Island Hills Station

Island Hills Station is a working high country station farmed by the fourth generation Shand family. Located only 20 minutes inland from the historic Hurunui Hotel on the way to Hanmer Springs the farm offers a range of unique walking, hunting and conversation opportunities.

Island Hills Station

A key feature of the farm is the new improved Island Hills Station walking track, formerly known as the Hurunui High Country Track, which is open again for the 2021/22 season and is like no other in the country with its diverse range of landscapes and vegetation which change continuously throughout your experience. This is a self guided walkway which is very well marked and easy to follow. The lodge style accommodation facilities are very unique with fully serviced kitchen, BBQ and dining facilities, bunk beds and plenty of privacy. Your hunting/adventure and conservation experience is in the hands of Shaun Monk who has walked through a lifetime of back country adventures all over New Zealand from multi-day solo hikes to back pack hunting along mountain ranges. His wide knowledge of wildlife, plants, conservation, bushcraft, mountain safety and New Zealand's unique history makes for a great chat with Shaun while walking the trails or relaxing around the campfire.
