Burnside Homestead B&B
Burnside Homestead is a Category One registered historic home offering high class B&B accommodation and traditional country fare. Architecturally distinguished by its octagonal Great Hall, all its antique guest suites incorporate contemporary facilities. Additional accommodation includes comfortable rooms in the Historic Creamery and Servants Quarters.
Burnside Homestead is located just 18 kms from Oamaru via Enfield, on the "ALPS 2 OCEAN CYCLE TRAIL", 22 kms from Duntroon. Currently owned by Marcus and Cathy Holgate, Burnside Homestead has been open since 1995 as a country lodge for accommodation and functions .
The wonderful setting for the Homestead is now mature parkland and it continues virtually unchanged and restored. Guests enjoy many features: Roaring open fires in the Great Hall; breakfast at the 16 seater oak dining table; snooker or billiards on a one slate table; teas in the sun-drenched conservatory; tours of the Homestead including fascinating insights into life as it was a century plus ago.
Guests can walk through the property's extensive parkland featuring specimen trees and sheltered gardens. The original orchard and vegetable garden, tame sheep flock and poultry add to the authentic experience of a past lifestyle.
Sited on the Alps2Ocean Cycle Route, it is an ideal last night B&B celebratory stay before a final morning ride into Victorian Oamaru. All four seasons are enjoyed in a micro climate that rarely sees extremes, a climate that is warm and calm. The Homestead is enveloped in its own distinctive hideaway environment.
Visits and accomodation must be arranged ahead of time.
