Living self-sustainably

Living deep in the Taranaki countryside are two European immigrants who came to NZ to 'get away' from it all and to live self-sufficiently.

On their property they grow a huge array of both winter and summer vegetables. A berry enclosure produces 'bucketloads' of berries. They also grow bananas, pawpaws and pomegranates and have planted 60 fruit trees. Using an old washing machine electric motor the couple have rigged up a small hydro-electric system as a back-up electricity supply.

Activities on offer:

- The practice of self sufficiency
- Vegetable and fruit growing
- Berries for sale
