Dairying to pumpkins

Dairying was a good income earner for a young couple but it wasn’t enough.

With land available on their farm there were other options and after trying hemp, with mixed results, they settled on growing pumpkins for their seed. “It’s a winner”, they say and a better product than the smaller, cheaper imported pumkin seed sold in the supermarkets in NZ. Other derivatives were pumpkin seed oil and flour which have proven to offer good baking properties and health benefits, being gluten-free. As a result the number of cows carried on their property were reduced along with their carbon footprint.
