About:
Dairying was a good income earner for a young couple but it wasn’t enough. With land available on their farm there were other options and after trying hemp, with mixed results, they settled on growing pumpkins for their seed. “It’s a winner”, they say and a better product than the smaller, cheaper imported pumkin seed sold in the supermarkets in NZ. Other derivatives were pumpkin seed oil and flour which have proven to offer good baking properties and health benefits, being gluten-free. As a result the number of cows carried on their property were reduced along with their carbon footprint.

About:

Kandiah Alpacas and Farmstay is owned by Pav and Mark Stacey and their farm is situated just 10 minutes from the wonderful small township of Waipu in Northland, New Zealand. They have a wonderful herd of mixed colour sure alpacas which have a beautiful soft, lustrous fleece. After washing and carding they felt the fibre onto pure silk fabric to make exquisitely soft and light scarves that are for sale at their farm. Close by are several good eating places and an excellent museum along with the wonderful Bream Bay beach and the Waipu caves with their glow worms. Other activities include horse riding, golfing, surfing and the special experience of taking an Alpaca for a walk along the beach. Accommodation is self-contained with a Queen bedroom, bathroom, with underfloor heating, living room with TV and WI-FI plus a small kitchen. Dinner  with a choice of menus can be provided on request.

About:
Traumatised by death and injury caused by a suicide bomber a young Israeli man set out on a search for treatment to heal his traumatic stress disorder. He found it by getting close to nature and in organic farming according to permaculture principles. With a young woman who shared his interest in environmental studies they together traveled the world looking for a suitable place to settle. They found it in NZ where by chance they met Jeanette Fitzsimons, a past co-leader of the Green Partry, and her husband who agreed to their buying a half share in their own 250 ha organic farming property. Today its the young couple's own 'Garden of Eden' producing fruit and vegetables for sale locally.

About:
Following a dream of living on a coffee plantation a young man and his wife planted 700 coffee beans on a two and half hectare property in Pekerau Hills in Northland. There were difficulties early on but these were overcome after a visit to a coffee festival in New Calendonia and learning of a particular species of coffee tree best suited to Northland conditions. Their beans are now sold throughout NZ and overseas.

One hundred years ago, in a remote part of the beautiful Kauaeranga valley in Thames, New Zealand, Simun Devcich arrived from Croatia and purchased a block of land and created a Farmstead. Simun Devcich traded with Kauri timber loggers and gum diggers who lived in bush camps in the upper Kauaeranga valley. The original trading post, Kauri mill, Wineshed, blacksmith shop, tool shed, woolshed and stables still remain. The Devcich Historic Farmstead is recognised as one of New Zealand's treasured historical sites, receiving a category one status for its significant historic and cultural value.

Our Farmstay offers the original three bedroom homestead, sleeping six, with a fully functioning kitchen, plus BBQ. Mobile reception for Spark and Vodaphone is available. Also available is a one bedroom cottage, sleeping three.

We invite you to experience life on a genuine New Zealand farmstay. Take in the history, relax and enjoy the breath-taking scenery of the Kauaeranga valley, its river, bush and mountain ranges.

The Devcich Historic Farmstead is a 15 minute drive from Thames and 90 minute drive from Auckland and Hamilton airports. It's an ideal base to do the Pinnacles Walk and explore the Coromandel Peninsular, its stunning coastline, unique arts and crafts scene.

The Cow Shed is a family run business set on a beautiful, 8 acre rural property, in a converted milking shed. The property is owned by Amy's parents who converted the Cow Shed and established The Restaurant in 2012. Head chef Sam has a passion for cooking and has been working in Melbourne restaurant and cafe scene for the past 10 years. Amy & Sam have decided it was time to head back to New Zealand with their family for a change of lifestyle and to follow their passion of embedding sustainable practices, gardening and sourcing high quality produce to serve delicious food.
