About:

The Rangitikei Farm has been in the Stewart family for over 110 years which in itself makes the Rangitikei Farmstay a special place with the history, family antiques and stories that go with them. When the Stewart family purchased "Tyrone" in 1901 the original block was 400 acres while today it stands at 1560 acres, a rather large adventure playground. While Andrew and Kylie Stewart are fortunate to farm the property today, they are fortunate because of the previous three generations of Stewart's before them and the efforts they have put into the property.

About

Palliser Ridge, the 2019 winner of the Ballance Environmental Farm Award, is a predominantly sheep and beef 1300ha farm in South Wairarapa with an 8000 strong flock of sheep and 1600 cattle. In response to the changing environmental and economic conditions confronting farming in NZ the focus of the farm's management has been to diversify, to set up wool, honey and tourism businesses. It's about the "spreading of risk in a changing world". To help combat erosion on some steep hill country 500 poplar poles are planted annually and one wetland, three shelterbelts and around 4000 native trees are planted every year to combat sedimentation, nutrient runoff and provide shelter for stock. And, in the process, carbon is being stored. The meat from the farm is processed locally and distributed throughout the Wairarapa region. The beehives are looked after by a local family and its wool is shorn, scoured and spun into yarn in NZ.

It is an ideal location for a retreat, to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life and a great holiday destination. The private lake has abundant bird life to observe and you can kayak out onto the lake to retrieve the floating golf balls that someone has tried to hit into a floating hoop. You are welcome to take a walk around the farm or maybe have a go at shooting clay birds. Or, simply do nothing! There are excellent fishing rivers nearby and a fishing guide is available. Woodville also has some good art galleries and interesting second hand shops. Table tennis and darts are available in a woodshed. The owners are keen wetlands enthusiasts and members of Ducks Unlimited NZ. The cottage sleeps ten, queen bedroom, twin room and bunk room with a lounge and kitchen.

About:

Mairenui Rural Retreat is a three house farmstay complex nestled in the scenic hill country of the Rangitikei District, in the central North Island, offering a restful getaway for couples, families or other groups. Mairenui is a working sheep and beef farm, with deer and horses and has been in the Sweet Family for over 100 years. Mairenui is committed to the environment and offers you a chance to share that commitment by planting a native tree. There are three accommodations options, two self contained houses and an in-house option with two double/twin rooms and ensuite bathrooms. French inspired cooking with genial hosts contributes to "The complete Rural Experience" that Mairenui's quests have loved.
